In her country kitchen, a mother who is racked with guilt confides in us, while awaiting a verdict. Her neighbour Caroline has died. Is she responsible for her death? Minutely and with honesty, she plays out for us the unrelenting ballet of her daily life; she compiles and sorts out the events that proceeded the drama, and she goes through the details with a fine toothed comb. On her list of things to do is something she has forgotten. A task that could have saved Caroline’s life.
Overwhelmed by our too busy lives, do we forget what is essential? That is the question that the author, Jennifer Tremblay, asks in this universal and yet intimate play, which won the Governor General Prize, the Michel Tremblay Prize and the Laurentian Bank Dramatic Author Prize.
