Scène écoresponsable accreditation
In 2022, Théâtre la Seizième became the first theatre in British Columbia to receive a Scène écoresponsable accreditation. In 2024, this certification has evolved from Silver to Gold!
Scène écoresponsable rewards theatres that are committing to sustainable development. This initiative of the Réseau des femmes en environnement and the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables aims at raising awareness and provide tools for theatres to introduce and improve a sustainability mindset in their practices. There are four levels of accreditation: Platine, Gold, Silver or Bronze.
Sustainability policy
With an accelerating socio-ecological transition in the performing arts world, Théâtre la Seizième has embarked on an eco-responsible approach as part of its commitment to environmental and social sustainability.
The company has adopted an eco-responsible policy that defines objectives in terms of waste management, responsible purchasing, transport and energy.

Programming
Purchase of flights including carbon offsetting
Offsetting emissions associated with our touring performances outside of Vancouver, by donating 500$ to Trees Canada in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
Lending, upcycling and recycling equipment
An equipment bank available for lending at minimal cost, available via the following link: Equipment – Théâtre la Seizieme Inventory
Systematic reduction and recycling of our seasonal communication materials (brochures, posters, coroplasts inserts, event programs) and reduction of paper printing
Creation of pouches and goodies from materials recovered from the Crème-Glacée show (Season 17-18)
Training and human resources
Volunteer participation of two members of our team in “Tree Canada’s National Tree Day Planting Event in North Vancouver” in 2023, the “Vancouver Neighbourhood Clean-Up” in 2024 and ”Clean up” with Boussole centre communautaire francophone in 2026
Follow-up on two eco-responsibility training sessions offered by La Bande Numérique and La Fédération Culturelle Canadienne Française, training offered by the Comité FrancoQueer de L’Ouest and training session on eco-responsibility offered by the ATFC in Winnipeg
Creation of a compassion fund to provide financial support to staff and artists with dependents (children and/or elderly family members)
During performances
Promotion of public transport, biking, and carpooling to audiences, artists, and staff
Recycling stations to facilitate recycling wherever we perform
Eco-responsible bars with reusable cups
