By way of community service, Zakia Ibgui – let’s call her Zouzou – runs a stencil workshop in high schools. She arrives at the beginning of class accompanied by Mathieu, her probation officer. Little by little, through a series of anecdotes, Zouzou tells her story. She shares her desires, her passions, her anger. Incensed and on edge, she often exceeds the limits imposed by the Parole Board of Canada and is gently brought back in line by Mathieu.
By addressing concepts of justice, ethics and freedom of expression, La question du devoir turns the class inside out, awakening consciences and sparking reflections on commitment. Going beyond the role of spectator, this participatory piece invites students to question themselves as citizens and helps to build their discernment of the world.
