The video club in the village of St-François-Xavier de Brompton, where four marginal and whimsical characters intersect, is doomed to disappear. Nearby, Lake Tomcod, swimming in pollution, is also dying. No circulation means the elements stagnate, dust particles accumulate and the tempers of the small town heat up. What happens when we lose our bearings?
Brought to the stage for the very first time by La Seizième, S’effondrent les vidéoclubs is a quirky and caustic fresco, bordering on the surreal. Somewhere between fantasy and delusion, with language that is at times quite crude and a voyeuristic bent, writer André Gélineau delivers a blend of tragedy and comedy, while skilfully subverting the documentary genre. We don’t know if we should laugh or shout, all we know is we’re having the time of our lives.
This show occasionally contains strong language and unusual humor that some audience members may find disconcerting; sexual content. Ages 15+
