News from our artists – Fall 2024

This year, 2024 is rich in events, and our artists would certainly agree! Discover the latest news, creations, and projects in development from our artistic collaborators as the horizon of a new year is already on the rise.

24/25 is a prolific season for France Perras (S’effondrent les vidéoclubs, Le Soulier, À toi, pour toujours, ta Marie-Lou). A moderator at Vancouver Writers Fest, from October 21 – 27, she will fly to Edmonton to take the stage at L’Unithéâtre. She will have the chance to play Evelyne in J’ai perdu mon mari, from December 5 to 8.

France is also one of the voices in the podcast Flashback : Le portrait psychédélique d’un disparu, directed by Gilles Poulin-Denis and co-written by Gilles, Thérèse Champagne and Louis-Philippe Roy. Produced by 2PAR4 in collaboration with Radio-Canada OHdio, this fiction inspired by historical events follows the journey of Audrey and Sabrina as they uncover a family secret buried since the summer of 1961. At the same time, they trace the history of the therapeutic use of LSD in Canada. In addition to France, a talented cast joined the project: Siona Gareau-Brennan Danielle Le Saux-Farmer, Gabrielle Morin, Thérèse Champagne, Esther Duquette, Emilie Leclerc, Joey Lespérance, ou encore Ismael Ndiaye.

Siona Gareau-Brennan participated in the workshop ‘Directing: Methods and Experimentations‘ with Solène Paré, as part of the 12th edition of the professional development workshops by the ATFC in Moncton. The workshop emphasized the visceral aspect of creation, guiding participants in crafting moments filled with dramatic tension. Siona has returned to Vancouver thrilled after two transformative weeks with Moncton’s Francophone theatre community.

After a summer under Bard on the Beach’s tents, Samantha Levy (Le merveilleux voyage d’Inès de l’Ouest) is participating in the Arts Club Actor’s Intensive, with a free performance taking place on October 28 at 7:00 PM. RSVP recommended! She will then play the role of Alex in Bound! The Musical: In Concert, on November 19 and 20. ‘I sing, I dance, I dress up as a man, I fall in love, and it’s a wonderful chaotic mix,’ she jokes. She will be reunited with David Underhill, her stage partner in Inès, who is also in the cast!

Anaïs Pellin (La Befana, Un.Deux.Trois., Le merveilleux voyage d’Inès de l’Ouest) will be traveling across the country this fall! Her show Clémentine will be performed in Sudbury on November 2, then in Montreal at Théâtre Outremont as part of the CINARS Biennale on November 16 and 17. Meanwhile, she will conduct object theatre workshops in schools in Ottawa, in collaboration with the National Arts Centre, from November 4 to 10.

This fall, Julio Rod Marin (La Befana) teaches movement and audition techniques to students at the Vancouver Film School and The Arts Club. At the same time, he is playing a monster that terrorizes the audience at the PNE’s Fright Nights festival until October 31. Then, with Christmas approaching, he will be in the play Miracle on 34th Street, a theatrical version of the 90s film, for The Arts Club, from late November to the end of December, under the direction of Omari Newton.

Nathan Metral (Le NoShow Vancouver) has just obtained permanent residency in Canada. He filmed in October for Chopin, Chopin, a Polish film, and is working on creating a solo show led by his drag queen persona, DIANA DA DIVA raconte seul.e. He is actively seeking theatres, co-producers, and investors ready to join him on this adventure. He continues to perform regularly in France for drag shows, with the next one scheduled for November 14 in Bordeaux.

Camély Rouleau (soon to act in Au grand jour) will be touring Vancouver Island as a dancer for the Yellow Point Christmas Spectacular, from November 17 to December 22. She has also appeared in several short films over the past two months: Lady Luck by Alejandro Fernandez, The House She Left by Germán Perez-Duarte and Sad Clown by Lily Quist.

A newcomer to the artistic incubator, Julie Lebel is working with her company Foolish Operations and WhatLab on Exquisite Pressure, a workshop culminating in the presentation of three short works from November 1 to 3. The goal? To present artistic proposals that are accessible to children but not intended for them. The three selected artists will benefit from 30 hours in the studio, a grant, and creative support from Foolish Operations. Julie will also lead a discussion for dance educators who are curious about or already teach dance in a family context, alongside Rossana Alves (Brazil) and in partnership with Luna Dance and Creativity.

Finally, Cory Haas, our Artistic and Managing Director, took part in a creative residency at the Scott-Fairview House in Gatineau, for the immersive reading of LICHEN and LOUP-CERVIER. These texts are the second and third parts of the Boreal Gothic Triptych by playwright Mishka Lavigne, a nominee for the Siminovitch Prize. This marks the beginning of a creative process alongside five other companies: Satellite Theatre, Théâtre Rouge Écarlate, Théâtre français de Toronto, Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario, and L’UniThéâtre.
