Call for proposals – Carte Blanche

In this 50th anniversary dedicated to contemporary creation and experimentation, our artistic incubator for theatrical practice will host a Carte Blanche, an opportunity for an artist or a duo to enrich an original idea, inspiration, or innovative impulse.

CALENDAR

The Carte Blanche period is set from May 19 to May 31, 2025.

  • Format: An exploration time of 10-12 days between May 19 and May 30, 2025. There may be occasional meetings between the artist or duo and the company beforehand.
  • Presentation: The public presentation(s) will take place on May 30 and/or 31, 2025.
  • Funding: Théâtre la Seizième will cover:
    • A fee of $3000 for the selected artist or duo for the entire Carte Blanche.
    • The rental of Studio 16.
    • The technical director’s fee for the project.
    • A creation budget defined with the selected artist or duo to collaborate with other artists.
  • Support: Théâtre la Seizième will offer administrative, artistic, and technical support for the Carte Blanche. Access to the technical inventory will be provided.

PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS

We ask the chosen artist or duo to document their work and share their process with our audience. This can take various forms (videos, short texts, interviews, etc.).

The presentation evening for the Carte Blanche will be open to the public of Théâtre la Seizième and will be free of charge.

The chosen artist or duo will participate in a meeting with the public to discuss their process.

SELECTION PROCESS

Application files will be evaluated by a committee composed of Cory Haas, Artistic and General Director of Théâtre la Seizième, Geneviève Pelletier, Artistic and General Director of Théâtre Cercle Molière, and Anaïs West, creator, playwright, and actor (Nuits claires, UN.DEUX.TROIS).

We aim to support artists who identify as underrepresented and invite creators from historically underrepresented communities to submit their applications.

  • Be a professional artist* or a duo of professional artists* who are Francophone and/or Francophile.
  • Be a resident of the Greater Vancouver area (please note that we cannot cover accommodation or per diem expenses).
  • Be available to participate in the development and presentation of the Carte Blanche during the weeks of May 19 and 26, 2025.
