Eight nominations for la Seizième at the 2024-25 Jessie Richardson Awards
Our productions “Ce que je sais de vrai” and “Au grand jour” have garnered attention: the former has received five nominations, and the latter three, at the upcoming Jessie Richardson Awards, taking place on November 3 at Granville Island Stage.
In the “Large Theatre” category, Ce que je sais de vrai is nominated in five categories.
The play, translated from a text by Australian playwright Andrew Bovell, is in the running for “Outstanding Production.”
Cory Haas’s direction has been recognized with a nomination for “Outstanding Direction.”
Alaia Hamer, who designed the set, costumes, and props, is nominated in the “Outstanding Set Design” category.
Finally, France Perras and Andrew Wheeler, who portray Fran and Bob Price, have been recognized for their outstanding performances in lead dramatic roles.
The young audiences play Au grand jour, directed by Diana Donnelly, earned three nominations: “Outstanding Production,” “Outstanding Direction” for Diana Donnelly, and “Outstanding Ensemble Performance” for the trio of performers Nathan Metral, Ismael Ndiaye, and Camely Rouleau.
Théâtre la Seizième would like to congratulate Andrew Wheeler and Alaia Hamer, who are also nominated for other productions in the “Large Theatre” category.
Andrew is nominated for “Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Dramatic Role” for his portrayal of Clay/Sam/The Pousselet Bartender in Primary Trust by Arts Club Theatre. Alaia’s work has earned her a nomination for “Outstanding Set Design” for The Hobbit by Pacific Theatre, as well as for “Outstanding Costume Design” for The Dark Lady presented at Bard on the Beach.
Since 2000, Théâtre la Seizième and its artists have received over 100 awards or nominations at the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, which are presented annually to artists, producers, and theatre companies in Vancouver in recognition of artistic excellence.
