Participation call – Vancouver teens

Are you in Grade 8, 9, or 10 and speak both French and English? Want to take part in an extraordinary artistic and human experience? We’ve got a project for you!

In September 2025, Théâtre la Seizième and Toronto-based company Mammalian Diving Reflex are collaborating to create a Vancouver edition of Nightwalks with Teenagers, a project where teens take the lead. Presented in 35 cities around the world, Nightwalks with Teenagers celebrates today’s youth by giving participants full creative control.

The project involves creating six night-time performance walks through the streets of Vancouver, conceived and led by teens.

Your role: to plan and create these walks alongside a group of peers and artistic coordinators, then guide a group of adults through the city. Your favorite places, your secret spots, your go-to activities… You’re in charge, in a fun and social spirit.

Creative meetings will start on September 19, and the bilingual performances will take place from September 25 to October 4, 2025. Here’s the detailed schedule:

  • Development workshops: September 19 to 24 (excluding Monday, September 22), in the afternoons and/or after school.
  • Performances: September 25, 26, and 27, and October 2, 3, and 4, in the evenings starting at 7:30 p.m.

We’re looking for bilingual teenagers from 13 to 16 years old to take part in this project. For more information or to participate, contact Gabrielle, the project coordinator, at regie@seizieme.ca, or send us a DM on our Instagram account: @laseizieme

Théâtre la Seizième is the leading French-language professional theatre company in British Columbia. Since 1974, it has been creating, producing, and presenting inspiring and impactful theatre. Over one hundred plays have been produced or presented since its founding, and the company has received more than eighty awards and nominations for its artistic achievements. Its programming is aimed at Francophones and Francophiles of all ages, featuring a general audience season, a youth season, a series of drama workshops in schools, and a training, development, and dramaturgical support program for performing artists.

Who’s behind Mammalian Diving Reflex? The name comes from a reflex unique to mammals: diving into cold water to increase their chances of survival. For this Toronto-based company, it’s a metaphor for navigating difficult periods in life—setting the mind aside and letting the body do what it needs to do. Through its deeply social, experimental, and aesthetic work, Mammalian Diving Reflex aims to foster dialogue and break down barriers by bringing together people from all walks of life in unique and unconventional ways. The company produces performance events, participatory installations, theatrical productions, videos, and community happenings. These works emerge from exploring the contradictions of human nature and are rooted in specific locations or social contexts.
