Call for proposals – 27/28 young audiences creation

Théâtre la Seizième, the leading professional francophone theatre company in British Columbia, in partnership with the Centre de la Francophonie at UBC, is launching a call for projects for francophone or francophile creators or artistic duos as part of its Artistic Incubator for Creative Practice. Proposals for texts or creations in the field of theatre for young audiences (elementary school level) are particularly encouraged.

Théâtre la Seizième is issuing a call for expressions of interest for project ideas or works in development for our Artistic Incubator for Creative Practice. We are especially interested in projects for young audiences (elementary schools) for the 2027/28 season. These projects may take the form of text ideas or creation-based proposals grounded in research of form or content, offering reflections on topics that may impact students from Grades 1 to 6.

This call stems from a shared desire with the Centre de la Francophonie at UBC to strengthen collaboration between the arts and education sectors, and to promote and recognize diverse Francophone identities by creating more space for stories and voices from historically underrepresented groups.

Educational support, as well as mediation activities around the creative process, will be developed with students from three departments affiliated with the Centre de la Francophonie at UBC and UBC Okanagan. In addition, public-facing work-in-progress showings will be offered.

STRUCTURE

  • Once the artist or duo is selected, la Seizième and its Artistic Director will support the development of the project.
  • Several development phases will take place, including working sessions with the Centre de la Francophonie and public residencies.

SUPPORT PROVIDED:

Théâtre la Seizième will provide:

  • A creation or writing fee for the development of the work
  • A fee for dramaturgical support
  • Coverage of costs associated with development phases, as well as production of the work in 2027/28, if applicable

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please submit your application (written, audio, or video) no later than Friday, May 15, 2026, to: directionartistique@seizieme.ca

Your application must include:

  • A presentation of your artistic practice and past work
  • A statement of intent outlining your artistic impulses and potential project ideas (in any format)
  • Your CV or the history of your company/collective

Additional information may be requested if needed.

Through its 2026–2030 strategic plan, la Seizième aims to be a space of theatrical convergence that fosters a human-centered and engaging approach. Special attention will be given to projects from individuals who identify with or belong to cultural or gender minorities, or historically underrepresented groups.

Only selected applicants will be contacted for an initial discussion phase. Final selection will take place in mid-June. Please note that resources are limited and only one project can be supported through this call.

  • Have a contemporary creative practice
