Young audiences audition call: dragons²
Théâtre la Seizième, BC’s main professional Francophone theatre company, is looking for two artist-operators for their new theatre for young audiences (TYA) creation: dragons², by Patrick Blenkarn, Laurel Green and Milton Lim, a coproduction for teenagers with Green Thumb Theatre, Studio FUNFUG and the French Theatre at the National Arts Centre. This show will tour BC secondary schools. Auditions will be held starting August 7, 2026.
dragons²
Two dragons clash as the crowd roars around them. Leaving chaos in their wake, they are banished into the Void by an enraged village. Thus begins an epic quest to regain their physical form, set against a surprisingly serious question: wouldn’t life be better if they weren’t terrifying flying serpents? Grab your controllers… because this is a video game!
Blending gaming with social performance, dragons² is an off-the-wall digital performance that sparks a conversation about the challenges of adolescence. Taking turns at the controls, players tackle essential questions: How can you be yourself when you struggle to fit society’s expectations? What do you do when you have power… but aren’t quite sure how to use it? This playful new creation from STUDIO FUNFUG (asses.masses, culturecapital) celebrates connection and cooperation, transforming screen time into a collective adventure.
Due to its form, a hybrid video game and performative participatory experience, this project is looking for two artist-operators with specific competencies – imagine something between a dungeon master and a master of ceremonies/host!
We are interested in artists/practitioners who have experience with immersive theatre, participatory theatre and/or social theatre, but also by diverse profiles that meet the following criteria.
SKILLS
The necessary competencies are as follows:
- an ease with improvisation (especially long form)
- the ability to work with technical equipment and technology (installation, troubleshooting, various uses)
- the capacity to work and to feel at ease with teenagers
- a collaborative and creative spirit
- the ability to create with and work with last minute changes throughout the process
- the ability to periodically rehearse using a platform such as Discord
You must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to drive (this project will tour secondary schools in BC).
Furthermore, we are looking for people with charm and energy, who are capable of being themselves on stage, but also drop in to various characters.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Pursue a professional career in the theatre industry or in a related field;
- Be able to work in the French language;
- Live in British Columbia.
